Renowned for his mastery of film, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali created the epic drama series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar, which debuted on Netflix on May 1. Like all of Bhansali’s creations, this one buzzes with imagination and passion, fascinating you with its sights and sounds.

A group of tawaifs, or courtesans, from Lahore’s Heeramandi red-light district are the focus of this 1920s-set television series. In British-ruled India, rebellion simmers while a rival threatens their queen’s rule. And between a tawaif and a Nawab, love grows.With a more realistic actor portrayal and a blending of unfiltered emotions, the series elevates the story of freedom, love, jealousy and brothels beyond what is seen in films like Gangubai Kathiawadi, Mandi, Kalank, and Devdas.

The lead actors are Manisha Koirala (as Mallika Jaan), Sonakshi Sinha (Faradeen/Rehana), Richa Chadha (Lajjo), Sanjeeda Shaikh (Waheeda), Aditi Rao Hydari (Bibbo) and Sharmin Segal Mehta (Alamzeb).The series marks the return of Fardeen Khan(as Wali Mohammed), complemented by performances from Jason Shah (Cartwright) and Taha Shah (Tajdar).


Review of the show-
Nonetheless, the 8-episode series has left the netizen divided. Others claimed that the show is a sleepy fest, while some are praising it as a masterpiece. Despite the film’s allegedly lengthy duration, Heeramandi is a memorable cinematic experience. You will be engaged by the sights and sounds of this project, as with other Bhansali creations, as it pulsates with passion and creative thinking.
